Marq Riley
Life of Riley

From an early age it was clear that my interests were not limited to one form of expression. Photographic and cinematic passions blended with theatrics, music and writing. Exploring the means by which the performing arts manifest themselves in different cultures, equally inspired by the work of Robert Wilson or Anton Corbijn as well as working closely with community theatre groups in Zimbabwe in the mid-90s, I graduated as a theatre director at the Utrecht School of Arts in 1997. Living in Greece since 1999, I was drawn into event and concert production, including tours with Eleftheria Arvanitaki and co-organising the Big Chill festival on Naxos Island three years running. Subsequently I was hired as a language editor and photographer at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, documenting daily life within the Olympic Village.

The following years were spent as Editor-in-Chief at SML Strategic Media, writing in-depth analyses of developing nations and emerging markets for publications including Foreign Affairs magazine, Fortune, The Observer and the Washington Times. In 2008 I returned to my passion and became a freelance photographer and writer, contributing to Athens Insider magazine, Oddysey Magazine and L'Officiel Hommes, capturing contemporaries in music, motion pictures, diplomacy and fine arts. Since November 2010 I've been running Shot and Echo, a hybrid production collective for imaging, filmmaking and writing.
