Lama & Wael | Lebanese Wedding in Barcelona

Lama & Wael's wedding in Barcelona

The story of this wedding goes back to 2014 when I shot a Lebanese marriage in Mykonos. During that one, I had captured a quick over-the-shoulder snap of two guests in a mini-van on the way to the ceremony. That couple, Zeina & Mustapha, got engaged and actually used that image for their Save The Date invites, and in 2015 asked me to come shoot their wedding in Barcelona. The following year Zeina started her own wedding planning business, and upon her recommendation I returned to Barcelona this year to capture Lama and Wael's wedding, which Zeina coordinated.

Lebanese weddings never disappoint. At least the ones I've been lucky enough to capture, and this one is definitely up with the best. Lama and Wael were so open and welcoming, and the sheer love and affection between them and from their family and friends immediately gives you a sense of belonging and inclusion. I could easily have written a 20-page account of the day, the stories evolving them, the subtext behind little details and stolen moments.  You will see Lama's brother joining them on her mobile phone from the States where he is a doctor, unable to join, and later in the car to the venue when she's reading the email he wrote her.  Even while we shoot a few portraits at the beautifully rustic Masia Ribas before the ceremony, she wells up a little.  It made me realise that my job wasn't just to document their precious moments, but also to be witness for absent loved ones.

I can't thank the whole the entourage enough for those two days in Barcelona, the love, laughter, grooves, paella and ceviche, sharky and mingo, class vibes to the moon and back, and especially Laura Stramacchia for capturing it all with me.
