Francois-Olivier & Maria // Santa Marina Resort Wedding in Mykonos

It's fun receiving a request for a destination wedding, engagement session or proposal at a venue I have shot before on several occasions, and then find out you actually have a familiar connection to one half of the couple. That occurred with François-Olivier who, when planning his wedding with Maria at Santa Marina Resort in Mykonos, had asked their planner Tonia to suggest a photographer. Turns out his mother is actually good friends with my mother-in-law, and I had actually met his Canadian-French-Greek family before. So capturing the wedding gained an enjoyably personal aspect.

Being with people who know you in a location that inspires every time and a coordinator you trust definitely helps shooting in a relaxed way, and I think it shows. Everyone can be themselves and not feel threatened by this outsider with a huge camera. I normally try to blend in anyway, but inclusion gives you a whole new level of access.

And of course you can't go wrong with the stunning design and light of this location and venue, Mykonos brings out all the colours and Santa Marina Resort has such exclusive views over the Aegean and a perfect grass terrace for a sunset ceremony. Yes, these are indeed the perks of being a wedding photographer in Mykonos.
