Amy & Marko // A Personal Destination Wedding in Skiathos
This one happened a while ago, but I keep coming back to it. It was my first wedding shooting images and video solo, an exception at the time but once I got talking to Amy & Marko and hearing about their plans for a small, personal destination wedding with their closest friends and relatives, coming from the UK to Skiathos, organizing everything themselves with a little help from their friends, I knew this was something I had to be a part of.
Here's how Amy described choosing me back then on a wedding blog: "I was as weird about photography as I was about dresses, so I spent a long time seeking out someone who I wouldn’t notice taking photos of me. I never got to meet Marq before the big day, but he was so attentive by email (which was a massive breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the elusive Greeks!) and I loved his tone of voice, so I was confident he was a winner. He did an amazing job of our wedding video and I felt like he really captured the vibe of the whole day perfectly in photos… without me ever seeing he was there. So much so, he hid video cameras all over our ceremony and I didn’t spot one!!"
It was a bit of a daunting task, and there were moments captured only on video or only on photo, but they knew that going in and we were all very happy with the results.
Marko being a vocalist with his own band, music was very important to them, and they had originally booked their friend Pete Josef to be part of the event (the track used in the video is his Seven Days in the Year). He however got a gig as the musical supervisor on Kelis's tour, and so suggested Pianoman Steven Reid Williams to fill his shoes, which he did amazingly. Marko & Amy's friends also jammed that night, DJing, beatboxing and playing guitar, with everyone joining in around the bar.
I just wanted to post this one as a testament to how, if you really dream of a destination wedding, there's nothing to stop you making it happen when everyone pitches in, be it designing the stationary, setting up the details, connecting cables, fixing hair or acting as the ceremony officiant, the love definietly comes through.
